We don't want you to be confused with all the technical jargon that plagues the cell phone industry so we are going to provide you with a list of these words. Some may help you when you are ready to deiced what cell phone to buy.

Cell Phone Glossary

There are so many things that you must know before buying a cell phone that you may be confused by all the big words that only pertain to cell phones. Here is a list of some of the more confusing terms.

Cell Phone Airtime - This is the amount of time you use or in some instances have left on your calling plan. Your airtime might be a 300 or 400 minutes plan.

Roaming Charges - Charges that are billed to your phone bill when you use your cell phone outside of your coverage area. These charges are usually expensive.

Hands free device - This is a headset like device that allows you to use your cell phone hands free while driving your car.

Hybrid phone - These are cell phones that can also be used as a PDA.

PDA - Personal digital assistant stores your phone numbers and other notepad like functions.

RFID Tag - These are being phased in to the newer cell phones as a way of tracking your location. These are helpful when calling 911 on your cell phone as they can track where you are calling from.

Ring tone - Just a simple way to say ringer you can download these on to your phone to change the ring style.

Face plates - Change the outside look and design of your cell phone. Acts as a cell phone cover also.

Cellular - The long version of the word cell I bet you knew that one already.

SMS - Text message functions are called SMS also it is the same thing.

Camera phone- A cell phone that also allows you to take pictures and email them to your friends or save as wall paper

Wall Paper - The background screen that is on your lcd phone when not in use.

Video Cell Phone - Cell phone that also lets you record around 15 seconds of video that you can send to other phones.

Flip Phone - Just a phone that has a cover that you flip open when you make calls.

Antenna Topper - A cute little device mostly cosmetic that displays your favorite things like sports teams or pet. Strictly cosmetic for fashion.

Battery - Power source for your cell phone. They come in rechargeable forms most new ones are made of lithium.

Vcast - The service from Verizon that allows you to watch television clips on your phone.

Power Vision - Sprints version of V-Cast where you can watch live television on your cell phone.

Games - Downloaded applications that you can purchase for your phone that make your phone more fun.
