All About Cell Phone Coverage Maps
One of the most overlooked things when buying a cell phone is the area in which the cell phone is going to be used in. When I first bought a cell phone I went with the regional plan since I didn't travel that often and didn't see myself having to pay for something that I really didn't need. Being that i live in New York I could very easily get away with having the plan that basically covers the Eastern seaboard all the way from Maine to the upper part of North Carolina.
Like they say most accidents happen in your car within a mile of your house, the same is probably true about your cell phone coverage area since 99% of the time you will be near your house. I picked the Verizon America's choice home airtime coverage with my first phone. This was great for me and it saved me a lot of money. These plans are
usually good if you are using the cell phone in the car in case of emergencies. Unless you drive the car across the country a lot this is a good cell phone plan to have.
My elderly neighbors have this plan as the kids wanted them to have a cell phone in the car at all times in case they got engine trouble. It is also a good plan if you are planning on getting a cell phone for your kids so you can keep track of them. Since kids and elderly parents are usually not world travelers and stay close to home base these plans can save money and make a lot of sense to have.
Now that I travel a bit more and I use my cell phone a bit more I upgraded my plan to the America's choice nationwide family plan. I get 700 shared minutes and I can go basically anywhere in the country and still use my phone. For me it is peace of mind and it is the best plan that fits my calling habits.
When I found out that my Mother was paying over $60 a month on her T-Mobile
bill and she only had coverage in the Eastern states I added her to my plan for
$10 a month. Now she can travel anywhere she wants in the USA and still be in
touch with family. Like I said you have to see what is the best plan for you.
Most people think that its the cell phone that is the most important thing when
they are buying a cell phone but it really is the
calling plan that makes the phone useful.
So in summing this up when you are about to sign up for a calling plan check the coverage area map and see if you can get away with a regional calling plan. You can save a lot of money each month on your cell phone bill. see my other pages on calling plans for more information.
